PAINTINGS
I hope you enjoy looking at my paintings. I use acrylics, and mixed media. My art is unashamedly bursting with bright colours, which I love! I am inspired by patterns, shapes, lines, textures, directions, rhythms, forms and changes in nature and landscape. I like to capture how I feel and what I perceive about a place, as well as what I see, and hope the viewer can experience this when looking at my paintings too!
I try to capture the repeating sounds of the breaking waves lapping on the shore, the bubbles and swirls of the frothy sea, the stormy clouds blowing across the landscape, the flickering light that dances on a woodland floor, rippling reflections that twinkle in water, |

tangled hedgerows abundant with life and surging upwards toward the light. I portray this through fluidity of brush strokes, use of colour, application of light and tone, and energy and movement on the canvas.
I believe strongly that to be a true artist you need three things; eyes, the hand, and the heart/soul. The ancient Chinese have always lived by this. In order to paint nature you need to observe it closely, to open your eyes and look deeply into it. It is only then that you can truly see and understand it, and its purpose in life . I have a deep relationship with the subjects I choose to paint, and often paint the same subject several times, seeing something new to depict in it every time. |
